We are excited to announce a new archival and digitization project in partnership with the University of Washington Sephardic Studies Program! The Sephardic Brotherhood holds expansive records dating back before even our founding in 1916 on nearly all elements of Sephardic Jewish life in America and around the globe. Starting this month, we will begin a long term partnership project to scan, digitize, and archive much of our paper records from the early 1900s until 1970, a long, vibrant and fascinating period of our history.

These records will include things like old minute books in Solitreo, the handwriting/written script of Ladino, along with records typed in Ladino with Hebrew characters, World War II correspondence, and more fascinating history. These records will be archived in our secure cloud-based system and also copied to the University of Washington’s Digital library, to be used only by request from academic researchers and scholars.

The potential for this new project is very significant, and it will present a major opportunity for all our members to more easily access archival materials of interest. Most importantly, it will ensure that our precious history is safely preserved, without relying solely on paper records.
