Magen David Sephardic Congregation (MDSC) is a Sephardic synagogue serving families in the Maryland suburbs of our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C. Its distinctive Sephardic character is a source of inspiration for the community, but membership in MDSC is not exclusive to Jews from Sephardic and Mizrachi backgrounds. The congregation has a wonderfully diverse set of heritages, and includes many Ashkenazi families. Magen David's precursor, the Yom Tov Congregation of Washington, D.C., was founded originally by Sephardic Jews from Greece and Turkey, and later joined with newly arrived Moroccan and North African Sepharadim in the 1950s and 60s to form the Magen David Sephardic Congregation. To this day, the Congregation still uses the Zehut Yosef Sephardic Siddur Series, based in the Ladino-Sephardic traditions of our Community.
