Magen David of Rockville Becomes Affiliate Congregation of the Sephardic Brotherhood

Magen David Sephardic Congregation of Rockville, MD kicked off an active summer with its 50th Annual Hilula of Shimon Bar Yohai. This celebration, having taken place in late May, honored our tzaddikim with festive candles, both live music & DJ, and words of Torah.

In July, we were honored to host the Sharabi Brothers, attendees at the Nova Festival on 10/7 who survived and saved 30 of their fellow festival goers. They shared their amazing story and the work they’ve done since to help impacted victims. We also hosted a Jewish Military Shabbaton in August where we were joined by Jewish members of the US Army, Marines, Air Force & Navy, as well as members of the IDF. It was a beautiful evening of solidarity and appreciation of service members and the larger Jewish community.

All of these events punctuated a summer otherwise full of community dinners, social programming and Israel advocacy in conjunction with our Jewish Young Professionals, Sisterhood and Men’s Club.

We are excited to begin Selihot, characterized by daily services full of our traditional melodies and energy. Magen David looks forward to welcoming Hazan Yossi Amiga from Israel for his 15th annual visit for Rosh Roshana and Yom Kippur. Working with our very own Rabbi Soussan, Hazzan Amiga beautifies our services with his vast repertoire and powerful voice. Magen David’s search for a permanent Hazan is ongoing and we welcome new candidates.

Stay tuned to our homepage at www.magendavidsephardic.org for information on upcoming class schedules, community dinners and Sukkot festivities. Also, a Shabbaton with the Sephardic Brotherhood may very well be in the works! We hope to see you soon.
