Literally means 'place' in Arabic, makam (plural makamim) is a standard melody type and set of related tunes. The melodies used in a given makam aims effectively to express the emotional state of the reader throughout the set liturgy, and vary from holiday to holiday, and even depending on the perasha of the week.
As Acting Chief Rabbi, he will oversee religious affairs, provide guidance to the community board and leadership, and work closely with local and international Jewish organizations to ensure the continued strength and unity of Turkish Jewry.
