We have a busy roster of community programs this Spring in the NYC-Metropolitan area! First Up, we are proudly co-sponsoring Hymns from Auschwitz: A Tribute to Viktor Ullman and Michel Assael at Carnegie Hall on April 20. The spectacular evening will feature world renowned pianist Renan Koen, a leader in the Jewish Community of Turkey, along with Turkish Conductor Gurer Aykal. This is the first time ever Carnegie Hall is hosting a concert featuring Sephardic music, some of which was written by Sephardic Holocaust surivors that were members of our own Brotherhood!
On April 27, we’ll also be hosting a special in person Sephardic Yom HaShoah Commemorative lecture at Congregation Shearith Israel, The Orphaned Children of Holocaust Studies: The Romaniote and Sephrdic Jews of Greece with Marcia Haddad Ikonomopoulos. On May 15, the annual Greek Jewish Festival is back with live Greek, Sephardic, and Israeli music, delicious food, kids activities, dancing, and more on New York’s Lower East Side. The annual Festival run by our affiliated Synagogue in Manhattan, Kehila Kedosha Janina, is sure to be an amazing celebration of all things Romaniote and Sephardic, and is free and open to the public.
In June, we’ll be hosting our annual Sephardic Young Families Picnic in New Jersey, with fun kids activities, delicious Turkish foods, and special Jewish book giveaways courtesy of PJ Library. Working with our young Turkish Jewish leadership, we’ve also been hosting monthly Sunday morning Shaharit Minyans, followed by brunch and a Sephardic Torah class for the community. A special thank you to our Executive Committee Member Sedat Behar for making this happen. Make sure to always check up on our website at sephardicbrotherhood.com and our weekly La Boz Sefaradi - the Sephardic Voice, for all our upcoming local and national events!
