Spring 2024 - New York City Metro Area

Updated: Nov 21, 2024

We have a packed spring of activities coming up in the NYC area. To kick it off, on March 24th, we had a wonderful Sephardic Young Families Purim Party in Teaneck, NJ, with over 30 families joining us with their young children for delicious kosher Turkish food, a live Megillah reading thanks to Rabbi Hayyim Arking, Turkish music, a kids costume party, face painting, and of course some Raki. Our Sephardic Young Professionals Network has been busy with biweekly Greek Dance classes in Manhattan, with 20 community members learning all the traditional Greek dances in our Community. This comes just in time for the ninth annual Greek Jewish Festival on the Lower East Side on Sunday, May 19th, in Manhattan. Be sure to mark your calendars for an amazing day of celebration with live Greek, Ladino, and Israeli music and dancing in the street, tasty borekas, biscochos, baklava, and Greek salads for sale, Sephardic kids’ activities, fantastic vendors, and more! The annual Festival run by our affiliated synagogue in Manhattan, Kehila Kedosha Janina, is an amazing celebration of all things Romaniote and Sephardic, and is free and open to the public. We also joined as a co-sponsor at the annual Sephardic Jewish Film Festival of New York, which featured fascinating films from across the Sephardic and Middle Eastern experience, including a special closing Greek night for our community at the Center for Jewish History in Manhattan.

For the second time, we’ll proudly be marching in the Celebrate Israel Parade in New York City on Sunday June 2nd with our own specially designed Sephardic float! This annual parade brings hundreds of thousands of Jews from the NYC Metropolitan area together for a spectacular celebration of all things Israel. We’ll march up Manhattan’s 5th Avenue with our affiliate congregations Kehila Kedosha Janina, the Sephardic Temple of Cedarhurst, Magen David of Manhattan, Etz Ahaim of Highland Park, and many others in the area. On Sunday, June 16th, we have our annual Sephardic Families Picnic in Overpeck County Park in New Jersey, where we’ll enjoy delicious kosher catered Turkish food, sports and games like water balloon tosses, and a free Sephardic kids book giveaway thanks to our partners at PJ Library. Check out our website for more info at sephardicbrotherhood.com, and make sure to always check our weekly La Boz Sefaradi - the Sephardic Voice, for all our upcoming local and national events!
