Things have been busy here in the Sephardic Community of Atlanta! In November, we hosted our annual Hanukkah Bazaar, THE Sephardic event of the year with thousands coming from all around the metropolitan area. The Bazaar is a beautiful celebration of our Sephardic culture with the Or VeShalom Ladies Auxiliary cooking up a storm of delicious burekas, biscochos, kuajado, bumuelos, and other delicious Sephardic treats. With fun kids activities, Judaica sales, raffles, and so much more, the Bazaar is an annual family reunion for our extended Sephardic community in the South. The Sephardic Brotherhood also had a tabling presence with Managing Director Ethan Marcus joining us for a fun Sunday. In January, we held a beautiful Tu BiShevat Families celebration in partnership with PJ Library at the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, and as always continued on with our Bureka Tuesdays open to all our community members.
This Spring, we’re bringing the amazing food and music duo and Brotherhood of Sarah Aroeste and Susan Barocas to Atlanta for our first ever Sephardic Heritage Festival from March 22-24! The weekend will feature Shabbat and Purim celebrations, Megillot Readings, Purim Carnival, and Shabbat Dinner catered by Chef Susan. The Festival will culminate in a special Bureka Bake Off - where we will finally find out who makes the best Burekas in the South. Come join us anytime at Congregation Or VeShalom on Shabbat, our Bureka Tuesdays, or any of our community events or classes coming up.
